The Power of Pronouns

by Education Blog

Posted on September 17, 2018

Let me first start by saying “thank you” to our parents, staff, and students for getting the school year off to a fantastic beginning.  Personally, it has been a fast and furious start to learning all the nuances that make a district our size successful. It is hard to believe that we are just about four weeks from the end of our first nine weeks.  Last year I was able to write a blog on a weekly basis, this year my goal is at least one each month.

Why the title “The Power of Pronouns?”  I think it fits perfectly into what our district will be embarking on over the next year.  Many times I will have people ask me “How's your school?”, or they may ask, “How is your football team?”  It really got me to thinking about the importance of the pronouns when I talk, or while giving consideration to issues that come my way.  You see, these aren’t “my” students, they are “ours”, and this isn’t “my” football team, it is “theirs” and “ours” together. Sometimes when talking, “I” can be a pretty common word in my vocabulary, it is something to work on, but like many of you it’s not meant to be in a selfish or self-aggrandizing way.  It’s how I talk, but it can’t be how I live. I’m thankful for the days to visit classrooms, talk to teachers and students; it is inspiring, motivating, and exciting! There are great things happening in our schools, and even greater things for our future!

Beginning today, a couple of surveys will be made available on our school website that I would encourage family members, and community members to complete.  These surveys, in conjunction with community forums will help form the baseline for our districts Continuous Strategic Improvement Plan. The most exciting part of this plan is the opportunity for community, student, and staff feedback.  It is our hope that this process will engage us all in the lives of our young people and their education.

Sincerely,

Tim Argo
